KPP03 On-Road Practice (10 hours) Requirements and Precautions
FAQ
1.How soon can I start driving lessons after passing the theory test?
After passing the theory test (KPP01), you must first complete KPP02 (basic driving skills training) and pass the internal assessment before you can begin KPP03 (on-road driving training). Usually, the driving school will schedule KPP03 immediately after KPP02 is completed, with no extra waiting time, but the exact timing depends on the driving school's class scheduling.
2.What is taught in KPP02?
KPP02 is basic driving skills training, covering: vehicle starting and stopping, clutch and accelerator control, braking techniques, steering wheel operation, gear shifting practice, reverse parking, side parking, hill start, and other fundamental driving maneuvers. Trainees must complete these exercises within the driving school's training compound to master basic vehicle control abilities.
3.How long is KPP02?
KPP02 has a mandated training duration of 6 hours, typically conducted over 2 days at 3 hours per day. Trainees must complete all 6 hours and pass the driving school's internal assessment before advancing to the KPP03 on-road training phase.
4.What is taught in KPP03?
KPP03 is on-road driving training, where trainees practice in real traffic environments: intersection turns, lane changes, overtaking, roundabout navigation, traffic light response, pedestrian avoidance, highway driving (if the driving school's route includes it), and other practical driving skills. Defensive driving techniques and real-world application of traffic laws are also covered.
5.How long is KPP03?
KPP03 has a mandated training duration of 10 hours, typically conducted over 5 days at 2 hours per day. All 10 hours must be completed before the JPJ test (QTI). The driving school will arrange different roads and time slots to provide diverse driving experience.
6.What is the maximum number of training hours per day?
According to JPJ regulations, a maximum of 3 hours of driving training per day is allowed (including both KPP02 and KPP03). This is to prevent trainee fatigue and ensure training quality and safety. Driving schools must adhere to this limit and cannot schedule more than 3 hours of daily training.
7.Can KPP03 be completed in one session?
No. JPJ regulations require that the 10 hours of KPP03 training be split across multiple sessions, with a maximum of 3 hours per day, so it takes at least 4 days to complete. Typically, driving schools schedule it over 5 days at 2 hours per day. This ensures trainees have sufficient time to absorb and consolidate the skills learned in each session.
8.Must KPP03 be completed at the same driving school?
Yes, KPP03 must be completed at the same driving school. JPJ regulations stipulate that driving training must be conducted by registered instructors from the same driving school at designated training grounds and routes. Trainees cannot split KPP03 training across different driving schools, as the training records would be invalid.
9.Can I switch driving schools during KPP03?
In principle, switching driving schools is not allowed during KPP03. If special circumstances (e.g., moving house) require a transfer, you must apply to JPJ and obtain approval, and the original driving school must issue a training record certificate. However, in practice, JPJ usually does not approve mid-course transfers. It is advisable to confirm the driving school's coverage area before enrolling.
10.Can I practice driving on the highway?
KPP03 training typically does not include highway driving, as learners have not yet obtained a full license. However, some driving schools' training routes may include expressway-like fast roads (e.g., Federal Highway), which must be done under the instructor's supervision. The JPJ test (QTI) also does not include highway components. After obtaining a P license, you may practice highway driving with an instructor's accompaniment.
11.Is there an exam after completing KPP03?
After completing KPP03, you must sit for the JPJ road test (QTI), which includes the circuit test (Bahagian I and II) and the on-road test (Bahagian III). The KPP03 training record is a prerequisite for taking the road test. Upon passing, you will be issued a P license (probationary license).
12.What does the 10 hours of KPP03 include?
The 10 hours of KPP03 consist entirely of actual driving time, excluding theory instruction or rest breaks. Content covers: city road driving (about 4 hours), residential area driving (about 2 hours), heavy traffic driving (about 2 hours), night or rainy driving (about 1 hour), and comprehensive road condition review (about 1 hour). Instructors will adjust focus based on your progress.
13.Can I be absent from KPP02/03 sessions?
No. JPJ regulations require that the training hours for KPP02 and KPP03 be fully completed; absences must be made up. If you are absent, you must notify the driving school in advance and complete the make-up session within a specified period. Excessive absences that prevent timely completion may affect exam scheduling. The driving school will record attendance for each session.
