MyJPJ Electronic Driver's License Usage Guide
FAQ
1.When was the MyJPJ app launched?
The MyJPJ application was officially launched on 10 February 2023 by the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ). The app aims to provide digital management services for driving licenses and road tax, allowing users to download and register via their mobile phones. During the initial launch, the system experienced brief congestion due to high user volume, but it gradually stabilized thereafter.
2.Will paper driving licenses be abolished in 2025?
According to JPJ's official plans, Malaysia will fully abolish paper driving licenses and road tax stickers starting from 1 January 2025, transitioning entirely to an electronic system. At that time, drivers will need to present electronic licenses and electronic road tax via the MyJPJ app, and paper versions will no longer be considered valid. However, this policy applies only to private vehicles and motorcycles; commercial vehicles (such as lorries and buses) will still require physical documents.
3.When was the electronic driving license introduced?
The electronic driving license (e-Lesen) was launched on 10 February 2023 alongside the MyJPJ app, initially applicable only to private vehicle (Class D) and motorcycle (Class B2) licenses. From 2024, JPJ gradually expanded it to more license categories. Users need to download the MyJPJ app and complete identity verification to view and present the electronic license within the app, which holds the same legal validity as the physical license.
